What is Authenticity: The way I define authenticity is the behavior that we bring to the table when no one is watching us or paying us to do.
Why do we need to be Authentic: Kids learn by what we do and not by what we say. We have heard this thing being said to us repeatedly. The reason for this is kids are silently observing us as we go about doing routine things during the day and they will mimic what you do. They would also sleep the same way you do, walk the way you do, and use the same words that you have been using or even have the same facial expressions.
This brings us to an interesting question. If kids will mimic what you do, what is stopping others in behaving the same way you behave? We need to be a role model first. before we expect others to act in the same way.
Characteristics of Being Authentic:
You are happy with who you are: You are happy and confident in who you are and aware of your strengths, biases, and areas to improve on
You are not doing things to please everyone: You do the right things and not what is popular
You are known for your values and are transparent about it: Being honest is very simple as it saves you the trouble of telling lies and remembering them in case you are asked again
You are a giver and approachable: Most people are takers. They are looking for help, money, ideas, or time but won't reciprocate them in return. This never works and the better approach is always to give without expecting anything in return from, friends, family, or colleagues. The returns are always 10x when you practice this
You are a good listener: You listen to be heard and not to provide a prompt reply
You see good in others: Always expect people to have good intentions
You are Present: You are focused on the present moment
You are a clear Thinker: You can think through the situation and bring new ideas to the table
You are a doer: You always walk the talk Surround yourself with Authentic People. They are a rare breed and do treasure their friendship or mentorship if you know one,
