JOMO - Joy of Missing Out, a phrase that I stumbled upon recently and could not resist thinking about, how it has helped me in recent years.
Humans are mostly driven by their fears, FOMO - Fear of Missing Out. We do things that are mainly driven by others and rarely are intentional. This applies to every moment of how we spend our lives.
Once we acknowledge this, it opens up new doors for us. It allows us to think about what we want to do and not worry about what we are missing out on.
Three reasons which drive FOMO are :
what we read
whom we listen to
whom do we associate with
If you become selective about the above, you will suddenly start enjoying the joys of missing out. You will become more intentional in everything you do. You will spend more time on things that matter and are not driven by FOMO.
It will allow you to reflect on what you want to do and to be true to yourself. It will bring joy based on what you define as success.
People on deathbeds don't regret the parties they didn't attend or vacations they didn't take. They regret most is, they were not true to themselves and didn't work hard on their purpose.
Be intentional with your time and you will never miss anything.
I would love to hear about your joys of missing out.
